What this event is
UMD's largest recruiting event of the semester runs in person October 1 and 2 with over 300 employers, followed by a virtual session on October 8. It is open to UMD College Park students and alumni; pre-registration is not required but a Handshake profile is recommended.

Who should go
UMD CS, engineering and data science students and alumni targeting DC-Baltimore employers, including the large commercial firms that recruit at College Park.
This is a general fair, so expect everything from consulting to nonprofits. The value for software people is the density of commercial employers that recruit UMD hard: the big consultancies, cloud vendors and fintechs. Federal and defense booths will be plentiful and mostly citizenship-only, so do not waste your resume there if you need sponsorship. Go early on day one when recruiters are fresh, and use the virtual day on October 8 to follow up with anyone you missed.

Sponsorship reality
Sponsorship varies by employer. No organizer publishes sponsorship. Check each employer you plan to meet against H-1B disclosure data before you go, and ask in the first two minutes so neither side wastes the conversation.
